Amazon Maternity Dresses

For the last-minute mama (like me) or the mama on a budget (again…me), Amazon is a great place to find cool looks. A quick tip is to find pieces that aren’t necessarily maternity but have a lot of stretch to them to stand out from the crowd. Some of my faves are:

1. Swimsuit Coverups

One of the unsung heroes of modern maternity photoshoots is probably one that you’d never think of, and that’s swimsuit cover-ups. They’re great at introducing cool textures and showing off the gorgeous curves of your pregnant body.

Some of my favorites are:

  • Textured cover-up – Amazon
    • This dress is amazing for adding that extra oomph to your photos, and you won’t see a unique piece like this on many other mamas.
  • Mesh cover-up – Amazon
    • The pearl detailing is such a gorgeous touch, and I love how well it complements a growing belly.

2. Bodycon Dresses

Another way to put the spotlight on your growing baby bump is with a classic bodycon dress. Paired with a classy updo and dainty jewelry, it can make for an extremely classic maternity photoshoot look.

Some of my faves are:

  • Earth-Toned Bodycon Dresses – Amazon
    • This Skims dupe is perfect for the modern minimalist mama. I’m always a huge fan of neutral-colored dresses because they tend to be timeless. If you want to hang the photos in your home, they can complement almost any type of decor!
  • Ruched Bodycon Dress – Amazon
    • For a slightly more dressed-up version, this ruched dress is perfect for your next maternity photoshoot. Paired with a strappy heel, this look can be killer!

KH.Fashion Maternity Dresses

Everyone who has been to my studio knows about my wall of “Princess Dresses,” and every single one of them comes from this amazing brand from Switzerland. Their attention to detail is unmatched, and they are worth every penny. If you do want to save some money, join their Facebook group where they run sales pretty often! It’s hard to choose, but some of my favorite dresses from their collection are:

3. The Kate Dress

For the Cinderella fantasy girls, this is the dress for you! It’s pricey, but can you really put a price on the experience of feeling like a princess for a day? I love the fact that there’s a slit in the front when you want to feel a little sassy and show off your belly and maybe even a little leg. You can keep it closed if you’d rather be more modest.

4. The Barbara Robe

This is a fan favorite and I’m sure you’ve seen them before if you’re a lover of stalking other people’s maternity shoots (*cough cough…me*). The Barbara robe is so beloved because of its versatility. It can be worn over clothes or by itself, with maternity and non-maternity, and I’ve even seen it used as a background for newborn photos. It’s definitely a tried and true must-have for your maternity photoshoot.

5. The Wisteria Dress

With the jewel-toned color options and the additional sleeves, you’re missing out on adding a touch of drama to your photoshoot if you skip out on this showstopper. The rhinestones on the bust are also a perfect touch to complete the look.

Silk Fairies Maternity Dresses

Even though I’m a big fan of breaking the rules of maternity fashion, there’s still a place for beautiful traditional gowns and fabrics. Silk Fairies is a versatile maternity gown shop with something for everyone. Once again, you can join their Facebook group for sales and deals before you make a purchase. Now with that being said, here are some of the top favorite dresses to check out:

6. The Clara Gown

For outdoor fall maternity sessions, Clara has always been a favorite! The rust tones and the classic silhouette are so flattering for every body type. I’m such a sucker for a dress with a slit to add that little touch of sexy to maternity sessions. With its gorgeous thick fabric, you can always cover up more if you’d prefer. Plus, there’s the added bonus of a tossable train to add even more pizzaz!

7. The Luna Gown

For those who love a good off-the-shoulder moment, this dress is for you! And a little fun fact: I actually wore this dress for my own maternity photos with my oldest daughter, and I loved it! It has a tossable train as well and comes in 31 different colors, so you’ll be able to find one that fits the color scheme you’re going for.

8. The Tahiry Gown

The thing I love most about this gown is the almost iridescent fabric and the gorgeous ruffles lining the slit. Plus, it comes with sleeves which is great for moms who may be a little more self-conscious of their arms. A quick heads up, though, it is pretty see-through so keep that in mind when ordering.

Bonus Entry: ASOS Maternity Dresses

You’d be surprised how many photoshoot outfits on my website are styled completely from ASOS pieces. In my opinion, they’re like a perfect mix between Amazon and higher-end maternity retailers.

Quick Tip: If you like something, buy it! I have missed out on several gorgeous items because they sold out before I could pull the trigger. At the end of the day, I know I can find a hidden gem almost every time I visit their website, but these are some of my favorites that I come back to time and time again:

9. Two-Tone Maternity Dress

I loooooveeee a good two-tone moment, and this dress delivers on all fronts. It’s classy but fresh with a really cool silhouette. And the great thing is you can re-wear it after your session is over or even when you’re not pregnant anymore! You can dress it up or down depending on the accessories, and it’s super comfortable. What more can you ask for?

10. Pleated Midi Dress

In keeping with the funky colors and patterns that ASOS has in spades, this dress is a show-stopper. Between the emerald green color and the pleated fabric, this dress is absolutely gorgeous. Probably my favorite thing about it, though, is the way it moves. You can spin in it, toss it, and drape it to add an almost ethereal fun aspect to your shoot.

11. Babydoll Dress

If you’re new around here, you may not know how head over heels I am for the color red. It’s unreal how beautiful of a color it is, and then pair it with a babydoll silhouette and…mic drop. Chef’s kiss. I couldn’t have come up with a better combo if I tried. And then pair it with combat boots and a cool hat and accessories. I’d say that takes bad a** mom to the next level, and I wanna be her!

Picking the Perfect Maternity Dress for Your Session
